Lymphatic
drainage is a gentle hands-on technique designed to attain and sustain
proper functioning of the lymph system of your body. The lymph system
removes toxins from cells and helps to deliver nutrients to your cells.
Lymph is clear fluid that bathes each cell and then is transported
through the lymph system to the heart to be processed by the liver and
kidneys. When the lymph system becomes sluggish; fluids, proteins and
toxins can accumulate compromising cellular functioning. The lymph
system does not have a heart like our circulator system does to keep
things moving. Lymph is circulated throughout or bodies by muscle
movement. What is interesting about the lymph system is that the more
the lymph moves, the more white blood cells are produced. Surgery,
trauma, stress, extended sitting and infections can hinder the movement
of the lymph system. Since this is a detoxing massage, it is a good
idea for you to follow the recommended water intake of eight 8oz
glasses of water the day before and day of your appointment.
What can I expect at an appointment?
Manual
Lymph Drainage is a very relaxing technique. A light touch is applied
and your skin is “pulled” in the direction of the lymph flow for that
area. You will be asked to wear gym shorts, sports bra or bathing suit.
The areas that will receive extra lymph drainage are where the lymph
nodes are; neck, under your arms, stomach, crease where legs meet the
body and under knees.
